"The Big Dog" Roman Reigns retired The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33 in the main event of the show. But in today’s society, fans care more about what you’ve done recently than what you’ve done in the past. And for Roman Reigns, he has to exceed WM33’s exploits with a mega-match at Wrestlemania 34.
The golden boy of the WWE has grown by leaps and bounds this year, firmly establishing himself as the top star in the company. Now to continue his legacy, Reigns needs to continue to build his star-studded CV of big matches at the show of shows.
The names on this list are all worthy contenders to be in the match of the night against the face of the company.
Here are 5 booking options for Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 34.
#5 Samoa Joe
The face of the company has become relatively untouchable in the WWE and it’s rare that many get to beat him clean. But somehow, Samoa Joe has beaten Roman Reigns on two separate occasions on Monday Night Raw.
Wrestlemania 34 would be the perfect platform for the two Samoans to continue the legacy of Samoans stealing the show at Wrestlemania.
As two main eventers, Joe and Reigns could have the match of the night at Wrestlemania. Hardcore fans idolize Joe, while the casual audience is finally warming up to Roman. This match offers both competitors a big match at Mania.
#4 The Demon King
In his first month on the main roster, Finn Balor beat Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins and also became the inaugural Universal Champion. He had a proverbial rocket strapped to his back but, a career-threatening injury derailed that push majorly.
Now since coming back, Balor has taken clean losses to Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, and Kane.
But when he evolves into his alter-ego of the Demon King, he does not lose. Now, this would be the WWE Universe would love to see. The undefeated Demon King versus Vince McMahon’s chosen one gives us a match that nobody on the planet could predict.
#3 Braun Strowman
The year of 2017 has been dominated by Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns. Outside of John Cena and AJ Styles, the duo has put on the best matches of the year, consistently raising the bar PPV after PPV.
The 3-time world champion hasn’t beaten Strowman clean on television since Wrestlemania, and that protection has done wonders for "The Monster among Men", firmly establishing himself as the top heel on RAW.
These two deserve to end their year-long rivalry at Wrestlemania 34, a stage worthy of such a colossal showdown. Strowman has worked too hard all year just to be thrown into the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal again; he deserves a match with the No. 1 superstar in the company at Wrestlemania.
#2 Shield Triple Threat
We may have already seen this once, but the truth is, this match didn’t get the attention it truly deserved. Roman’s 30-day suspension for violating the wellness policy overshadowed the build to the triple threat, ultimately putting a damper on it.
In a match Dean Ambrose eventually won, Reigns surprisingly took the pin, with many believing the chosen one was being punished by Vince.
Now that all three are firmly established as bonafide main eventers, a match this big should only be showcased at Wrestlemania. This time there would be no mitigating factors outside of normal booking, meaning we’d get a true winner between three mega-stars.
#1 Brock Lesnar
‘Eurgh, not again,” I hear you say, but let me tell you why this may be the best option for Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 34. If you hadn’t accepted it by now, Vince McMahon is determined to make Roman Reigns the next all-time great.
In just a few years of singles competition, he’s beaten The Undertaker, Triple H, John Cena and Randy Orton. And with Wrestlemania on the horizon, the 'Reigns Train' doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon.
For all the lack of apathy showcased in the build-up of the Wrestlemania 31 main event, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns still delivered a match fans will forever remember. The uncertainty surrounding Lesnar’s contract situation and Reigns' inevitable rise to the top gave us a compelling dynamic.
At WM31, Reigns was still adjusting to his new position, now in 2017, he’s firmly established as the top star in the industry. He’s used to delivering stellar matches on the grandest of stages. Brock Lesnar’s run as the Universal Champion has been lackluster, to say the least, and I can think of no better superstar than Roman Reigns to put an end to that reign.
